Jewelry Case Study

Approach:
The first step we took was to investigate the vision of the artist and the needs for her business and her customers. We discovered that the website has to be a selling showcase and a design tool. Then we worked on the layout and decided to produce the minimum amount of pages. We discovered quickly that the large amount of product would not warrant a static page design and so we diverted to a dynamic web site design. It was important to the artist to show several views of each jewelry piece, so the customer can see the details and the artisanship of the product.

Once we surveyed the amount of product and establish the needs, we developed an implementation plan and a cost structure for this project. We established the following list of actions:

  1. Registering the domain name
  2. Finding a reliable and cost-sensitive web hosting service
  3. Building a picture display engine
  4. Creating the page layout
  5. Producing the pictures for the jewelry pieces (client provided high resolution digital photographs)
  6. Writing the copy for each of the jewelry piece and the content for the home jewelry web site
  7. Producing the contact page with e-mail support and visitor e-mail list storage
  8. Conditioning the client pictures
  9. Placing the pictures and copy on the web site
  10. Pre-releasing and testing the website with quality personnel and selected customers and partners
  11. Registering the website with the major search engines
  12. Releasing the website
  13. Building a tool that allows the artist to quickly update the product pictures and copy on the website
  14. Training the artist and her staff on the features and benefits and the maintenance of the website
  15. Quality check, maintenance and uptime check of the website for the time of the contract
